State voter files are public record. Most states provide them free or for a small processing fee. You generally need to be a registered candidate to request one.

How to Request

  2. Contact your Secretary of State's elections division
  3. Submit a voter data request form with your committee ID
  4. Pay any processing fee (usually $0-25)
  5. Upload the file here — we parse any format

💡 Email Best Practices

📬
Subject Lines
Keep it under 50 characters. Use your community's name. Avoid spam words like "free" or "urgent."
Best Times to Send
Tuesday–Thursday, 10am–2pm local time. Avoid Mondays and Fridays. Never send Friday evening.
📝
Email Length
Under 300 words for updates. Under 500 for newsletters. Always one clear call to action.
📊

Community
Connect with other Party of You candidates across the country.
🏗️
Coming Soon
The community forum connects Party of You candidates to share wins, ask questions, and learn from each other. Launching once we have our first cohort of candidates onboarded.
Collective Upgrades
Party of You is free, ad-free, and always will be. But some data and tools cost real money — data vendors charge whether we like it or not. This page shows what we could unlock together by splitting costs across all active campaigns. We never profit from this. Every dollar goes to the vendor at cost.
Active Campaigns
How Collective Upgrades Work
1️⃣
We identify data or tools that would materially help all campaigns win.
2️⃣
Campaigns vote to unlock. If enough campaigns pledge, we split the cost evenly.
3️⃣
Data is integrated into the platform instantly for every campaign that contributed.
4️⃣
Zero markup. We show you the invoice. You pay the exact per-campaign share, nothing more.
BallotReady — Local Race Intelligence
Highest Priority
The single biggest gap in the platform. Right now we can show you federal and state races — but most independent candidates win their first election at the local level: city council, county board, school board, water district. BallotReady covers 130,000+ local races across all 50 states with continuously updated data sourced directly from election authorities. Here's exactly what we'd get:
Annual Cost
$5,000
billed yearly
📋 Dataset 1 — Race & Filing Data
One row per race — every combination of position, election day, and race type (primary, general, runoff, unexpired term). Continuously updated from official election sources.
Filing deadlines — exact start/end dates, including separate deadlines for incumbents vs. challengers and major vs. minor party candidates
Position details — official name, district/ward/region breakdown, number of seats, term length, and election frequency
Race type flags — primary, runoff, unexpired term, blanket primary, majority-vote primary rules by state
Partisan type — partisan, nonpartisan, or partisan-for-primary-only (critical for independent candidates)
Census geography linking — FIPS and MTFCC codes so every race maps to a precise geographic boundary
Position descriptions — plain-language summaries of what each office actually does
Level classification — federal / state / regional / county / city / local, enabling precise filtering
🏛️ Dataset 2 — Incumbent & Officeholder Data
One row per officeholder term. Current and historical officials from federal down to local — who holds the seat, how long, and how to reach them.
Full name + party — first, middle, last, suffix, nickname, and party as it appeared on the ballot
Term dates with precision — exact start/end plus a specificity flag (day/month/year accuracy) so you know how solid the data is
Open seat detection — vacancy flag plus off-cycle flag for special elections and mid-term appointments
Contact information — office phone, district phone, email, and mailing address per officeholder
Web presence — government website, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram links
Appointed vs. elected — flag distinguishes elected winners from appointed replacements
Full term history — every prior officeholder per seat, enabling incumbency research and term-limit tracking
🔓 What this unlocks on the platform
Local race cards in Race Selection Filing deadline alerts (60/30/14 days) Incumbent research panel Open seat alerts in your area Partisan vs. nonpartisan race flags 130,000+ local races (vs. ~500 now)

YouGov — District-Level Polling
High Value
National polling is fine but what you really need is issue polling specific to your district. What do voters in your ZIP code think about healthcare, housing, wages? YouGov's district-level polling data would let us show you exactly what issues your neighbors care about most — not what the national media says they care about. This directly informs your messaging strategy.
📋 Includes: Issue polling by congressional district + state legislative district 🔄 Updated: Monthly

OpenSecrets — Opponent Money Tracking
Who funds your opponent? OpenSecrets tracks every dollar in federal and state races — PAC money, corporate donors, dark money flows. Knowing who's bankrolling the incumbent is campaign gold. It lets you draw a direct contrast: "My opponent takes money from X. I don't take a dime from them." Currently we use FEC data which covers federal races but OpenSecrets enriches it with industry categorization and context.
📋 Includes: Donor breakdowns, industry categorization, dark money tracking 🔄 Updated: As FEC filings come in

L2 / TargetSmart — Enhanced Voter File
Game Changer
State voter files tell you who's registered. Enhanced voter files tell you who actually votes, what they buy, what they read, and how likely they are to support a progressive candidate. L2 and TargetSmart append commercial consumer data to voter records — this is what every major party campaign uses to target their door knocking, phone banking, and mail. Without this you're knocking on every door. With it, you knock on the right ones.
📋 Includes: Modeled turnout scores, partisan scores, consumer overlays 💡 Note: Raw state voter files are always free via our voter file guide

Extra Storage — Voter File Hosting
Voter files are large — a full state file can be 2-8GB. Our current Railway storage is enough for platform files but we'd need dedicated storage expansion to host uploaded voter files for all campaigns simultaneously. This unlocks the door-knocking route generator and in-platform voter file management that currently requires you to use spreadsheets.
📋 Unlocks: In-platform voter file upload, route generation, contact tracking 🔄 Type: Ongoing monthly cost

Our promise on collective upgrades
When a threshold is reached, we contact every pledging campaign with the exact invoice from the vendor before any charges. You can opt out at that point with no obligation. We don't collect money speculatively — charges only happen when the upgrade is ready to go live. We will never mark up vendor costs. If we get a bulk discount, that discount passes to you in full.
